Kia ora koutou,

As we know from the government’s announcement last night, Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) has moved back into COVID-19 Alert Level 3 for at least the next 7 days. Please see the attached and below panui about changes to the ManaKidz/Kootuitui school health service.

This is just a short message to let you know that Mana Kidz will still be available to schools, and we have urged each health team to work with you to make sure they are doing what is right for each school, community and whānau. Each clinical team will be delivering a combination of onsite, phone, and home visits to best support whānau and will be working under the strict guidelines of the Ministry of Health. Clinical teams will have appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to ensure a safe service. Please see the below and attached information for your school and whānau.

We will not be doing sore throat swabs this week and will instead treat sore throats empirically with antibiotics to prevent Rheumatic Fever. Students who have any COVID-19 symptoms will also be advised to seek a test at a Community testing site or at their GP – details of testing sites are changing regularly and are updated on the Auckland Regional Public Health service website:  https://www.arphs.health.nz/public-health-topics/covid-19/where-to-get-tested/

We have also updated our Facebook page and will continue to update you through emails and social media. Please ‘like’ us on Facebook https://www.facebook.com/manakidz.nz to stay up to date. We will send out communications via email regarding any service changes to you as we react to the ever changing situation and government announcements. The next email you receive will receive about the Mana Kidz service will come from my colleague Riana, who has just returned from Maternity leave.

If you are concerned for an unwell child or your whānau contact the dedicated Healthline number 0800 358 5453 for help if you cannot reach your school health team or GP. If you have any questions about the Mana Kidz programme please contact your clinical team in the first instance, or us at Mana Kidz Hub 0800 MK TEAM between 8am and 6pm.

Ngā mihi,
